Family Support Worker

Michelle Hellend.

Our Family Support Worker is called Michelle Hellend.

Michelle is in school every Friday. She runs a coffee morning which is open to all parents between 9.00 and 9.30am.

Michelle supports our families with a whole range of things from being a friendly ear to listen to your concerns, to advice about housing, benefits, application forms, parenting classes, holiday clubs... the list is endless.

If you have any concerns or would like to chat with her she is always on the gates in the morning and available in school, throughout the day, every Friday.

A Message from Michelle:

Hello, my name is Michelle Hellend and I am the Family Support Worker (FSW) at Saint John Bosco Catholic Primary School.

We understand that many children and families experience difficult times which can make a happy, successful school and home life a struggle. If you have worries about your child, connected with school, it is always best to discuss these with the class teacher or Mr Masterson, the Head as they will know your child and can work with you to address any issues.

Sometimes, there are other problems that parents or carers need some help with. I am here to listen and offer support. I work in a non-judgmental way and I know that families come in all shapes and sizes!

I have over 15 years’ experience of working with children, young people and their parents and carers. If I can’t help directly, I am able to signpost or refer parents and carers to appropriate support. Here are just some examples of the things I can help with:

  • Getting to school on time and good attendance.
  • Mental or physical health issues.
  • Supporting parents and carers to ‘get involved’ with school life.
  • Housing and money worries.
  • Family relationship problems.
  • Bereavement and loss.
  • New starts and settling in.
  • Training, education and employment.
