Special Event - Year 6 at The Public

15 July 2011

Year 6 pupils from St John Bosco Primary School enjoyed and outstanding day of education and entertainment on Friday 15th July at The Public art Gallery in West Bromwich, by taking part in the Childrens' Citizenship Festival organized by Sandwell Music and Arts service.

During the day the children took part in a range of workshops which included learning to play a variety of drums from around the world and working with other schools to compose a drumming production.

There was an opportunity to take part in a vocal workshop where the children were able to use their voices in interesting and amusing ways and also a workshop with professional artist Caroline Jariwala to produce mosaics and collages which will be used at the Council buildings at Oldbury and plenty of time was available to explore the many interactive activities, games and exhibits at The Public including making and starring in films along with using the bouncy castle and face painting provided by the music and arts team.

Each school who were at the Public were given a 30 minute slot on the stage to perform a showcase to an audience of other schools and the St John Bosco class chose to perform the songs from their leavers' performance 'School Daze' which they had put on at school earlier in the week and which was a massive success.

The Festival at the Public was a brilliant day out and learning experience for all concerned.
