Special Event - Goodbye to Mrs Collins and Year 6

22 July 2011

St John Bosco Bosco Primary School said goodbye to both its Year 6 leavers and a special member of staff on Wednesday 22 July.

Mrs Carol Collins left the school after an amazing 25 years as principle lunchtime supervisor, which made her the second longest serving member of staff. During her time at St John Bosco Carol has seen many changes including countless Headteachers, but something which has not changed has been the care and attention she has shown to the hundreds of children she has looked after in her quarter of a century at the school. Some families are now in their second generation of working with her.

The last day of term began with a special Mass celebrated by Parish Priest Fr Ugo Ikwuka during which the Year 6 children and Mrs Collins received special gifts and blessings, then in the afternoon a special assembly and presentation for Carol. This included a performance of brass music, presentation and ended with Year 6 doing a rendition of 'The Wild Rover' Mrs Collins being a a keen lover of Irish music.

Headteacher Mr Masterson spoke of Mrs Collins' calm approach to everything, saying he had never once heard or raise her voice or get flustered, and the amazing contribution she has made to the school.

Mrs Collins will be sadly missed by all and we hope that, after a well deserved holiday, she will come back to the school as a special guest from time to time.

Along with Mrs Collins, the 29 pupils who left St John Bosco will be sadly missed. This class had an outstanding year, having achieved the best SATs test results in the school's history and featuring regularly in the local and national press. They are going to a range of high schools and like Mrs Collins we hope they may return from time to time.
